Chances are the culprit is time machine backing up especially over wifi that's hanging InDesign. Neither Apple nor Adobe will admit responsibility for this. But if you pull down the time machine menu icon top right and select "Skip this backup" you'll find that helps.
You may have to do this a few times as Time Machine seems to want to start itself up repeatedly. This helps make InDesign usable. If that fails, disconnecting wifi seems to help, although I'd hardly call that a workaround.
